and I've only just noticed "chris came with le creuset"....there's a bargain!

The John Lewis ones would probably be fine, but they just don't look the business do they?

And Helen, I'm really starting to get paranoid...why am I always moderated???

We spent ?50 on a pan set reduced from ?100 9 years ago and apart from one that sim left rice boiling in *several* times for *several* hours (after Pip was born, so sort of forgivable!) and lost it's magic, they're ace! I also spent about the same on a habitat big stock pot one that goes in the oven and last Xmas my mum gave me a posh one to replace the ones S wrecked. It's worth getting decent pans but I bet John Lewis ones would be great....off to look at links now!

We're on our 3rd set of pans in about 12 years. First set were very cheap Woollies or similar and lastet accordingly. Second set were a bit pricier and nice and heavy but the handles and the knobs on the lids went loose and wobbly over the years (about 5 years I reckon). We've now got various sizes from Ikeas 365 range and have had for a year with no visible signs of wear. My only gripe is that the handles get so hot you need to use a teatowel to hold them. Other than that they clean up very well, always looks nice and sparkling and are reassuringly heavy without being too tricky to use for the weak wristed!

And finally OMG, I *am* a grown up! Can't believe I'm making comments like this before 8am ;-)

Thank you Helen!

When we got married we were given a set of 3 saucepans that had been my dad & stepmum's, second hand, when they upgraded. 11 years on we've finally decided to get some new ones, as since steaming the Christmas pudding one of ours has started shedding black bits into our food - ew.

Hadn't got as far as looking yet so thanks for the links. Can't help on recommendations though, obviously! We won't get cheap, I've bought cheap pans before and you just end up chucking them or having to replace them anyway so I'm sure it's not a sound investment, whereas decent pans really should last a lifetime, shouldn't they?
