Oh, thanks for the Sussex carol. We used to go carol singing every year for Action Aid, when I was a kid, and that was always a favourite. I like the jolly tune and words. I also find “darling, darling little man” quite hideous, C!

All time favourites are Little Town of Bethlehem and The Coventry Carol.

Ah, and Chris, “Darling darling little man” is the rocking carol, been a mainstay of children’s carol services since the year dot I think (and should be sung with a serious lisp and any other child-like speech impediment for best effect.) I think I prefer it to the other usual offering of “lickul DonnnnnKi” though!

I like that trad tune Helen, but also like the one that the Americans seem to sing a lot – nice version of it by Sarah Maclachlan here. And I like the Cliff version too I have to admit
