Back to normal?

well, sort of. We have ar least done some obvious home ed!

SB thrashed Chris in a game of tubes that have to build across the board [logic and creative thinking!] – twice. They went to chemists for assorted hair bobbles and slides. I got to play hairdresser [which I love] as SB wanted them all in – yep, will flikr!] We did some colouring of pictures and then some hama beading. While SB doing that, I went and found the magnets, so she shew me how to make iron filings faces, and I shew her how to make a compass. so discussions on earths magnetism, magnetic fields, north and south etc.

We did a bit more story of the world [ we have left it awhile, so only on to theIndia bit, but she likes that - looked for india on globe and chatted about climate etc.] Some more fun as I got to paint her face – she wanted it to be a ballerina flower fairy. I had to paint it as a dolphin yesterday [and she painted mine as a lion - rofl!]

We have done more work on tens and units, using jojo in numberland, and just measuring things around the house with the tape measure. Also looked at webland chocolate and played some of their gamesShe has gone around all week sounding out words as well.

What else? eaten lots of chocolate, watched Stuart Little. played with BB – stacking things
, hoops on the pole, feeding mummy game, her click clack caterpillar, and draw on mummy. She slept better last night too, which was fantastic.]

SO a lovely day playing with the girls. Arm still very painfuil, so a bit worried, as I really need to get better soon. Work is keen for me to return, and as I don’t actually feel sick, I feel guilty. However can’t drive, can’t lift things with left hand, and can’t rest on it so not actually able to do much. sigh.

Shopping for a new carseat tomorrow. fun!!

  1. What is this “shew”? ;)

PS – can be in for a bit tomorrow, but have to go out at some point :) When d’ya fancy?

  2. Old variant of show – this is Helen remember :-)

Tomorrow? afternoon? Time we left here, got there, shopped for seats etc. we are probably talking after 1-2 pm – any good?

  3. Are you going to need physio etc before it’s properly functional, or is it not even at that stage yet? Work has been asking me what they can do to “facilitate my return”. It’s a bit scary actually, as though I am def over the acute illness now, Xmas Day probably being my last actively *ill* day, I feel ages away from a proper recovery. I can only manage about half an hour at a time on my feet, and am still sleeping for about three hours every afternoon. I’m trying to find the balance between an appropriate recovery period, to avoid me immediately getting ill again, and just needing to give myself a sharp kick and get on with it.

  4. i think i probably will. I have elected to return 16th feb [1 more week sick leave and 1 week annual leave] but may shy out of the heavy stuff for the first week, depending on. After all, I still can’t drive.
At least I haven’t been actively unwell.

TBH Joyce, I think you prob need a good month of recuperation before you go back. i don’t think you should feel at all pressurised to return by them. After all, you will need to concentrate for a long drive at the end of a hard day. No point going to work if you can’t survive journey home. Please take the maximum time off you can, and then suggest the first week back is done from home and they can send you all the stuff you need to know to catch up and mull over. Suggest to them that although you are having 2 week sicknotes as you wish to return as soon as possible, it has been discussed that the earliest you are likely to be able to return to work is the beginining of feb, and even then, there is a doubt over whether you could do long days or long drives for the first week at least.

You have had a life threatening major illness. Until you can get out of bed, go and do the major shopping in a busy supermarket and then get home without feeling you will die and sleeping for the rest of the day you are in no way ready to go!

  5. Yes, the doctor has said he is giving me two week sick notes as HE wants to review me at least 2 weekly, and not because he thinks I should be planning on being back at work by then. And major shopping in busy supermarket – well, that’s ALWAYS beyond me – that’s Bob’s job ;-) I guess I’ve never needed a convalesence really before, and I’m struggling with the concept of being off sick, and yet not lying in bed with temperature. Although not driving in worst of winter a very appealling concept. Back for a week early FEb, maybe, then a week of leave to go to Melrose might constitute a nice move back into the swing on things. :-)

  6. i meant 16th Jan – as pointed out by Merry !
