A rather sad thing

Watched a bit of Supernanny tonight whilst blobbing out. Same old, same old really, but what I found sad was the dad, who had never, (7 years I think) until the program, read his kids a bedtime story

  1. Hmm. I think I could probably count the bedtime stories Steve & I have read to our kids over the last 9 years on the fingers of our hands put together – I just hate reading out loud, and especially at their bedtime! (well maybe it’s a few more than 20, tbh I haven’t exactly been counting – and they used to have more when they were younger than they do now!)

But they get stories at other times, and snuggles, and we’d rather play a board game with them at bedtime! I’m assuming it was the lack of intimacy/relationship between father and children that bothered you rather than the lack of bedtime stories … if not then we’re in trouble too ;)

  2. Some of these stories really are incredible – parents who have no relationship with their children and are wondering why they are having problems.

  3. trouble is though, some of them just don’t know *how* to be the parent they need/want to be as their parents were the same. It’s a chain that can be hard to break.
