I think something really does need to be done about broadband upstream speeds. Flickr takes ages and you can’t send loads off to go cos then it fails. Grumble as we’re behind lots too. I thought the tagging was bad enough but no, definitely the uploading.
You can get a faster upload speed (832 kbps) if you pay a bit more – almost double the basic upload speed (448 kbps).
ADSL2+ which BT is just starting to roll out generally has a faster speed – about 1.4 mbps, though if you sacrifice a bit of download speed you can get up to about 2.5 mbps. Similar speeds can be got at the moment already using one of the LLU (Local loop Unbundled) providers such as Tiscali, Be/O2 etc.
Given the fact that I get to work for BT and get access to whatever we’re doing with BB at any particular point in time – we already get 832 kbps – Michelle is just impatient! If we had 2 MB she would still be complaining – it’s just the way it is :^)
I know, and of course nowadays we just upload the fullsize images, not botheriung to make files smaller. We have 832 as well, as we use an onlne backup service and it speeds up that as well.
But I’m waiting for Be/O2 to unbundle our exchange (was supposed to be by 30/6, now put back to by 31/7) so I can jump ship and get 2+ mbps
