  1. I think I often like the words as much as the music. Weird words that you never use at any other time, for example: ‘thus spake the seraph and forthwith appeared a shining throng’ and, ooh, the other one I like escapes me at the moment, it will come to me later. O Little Town of Bethlehem is my all time favourite, I think.

  2. and something in my previous comment got me moderated!

  3. i like the hear me i beseech thee in dulci jubilo

  4. Her favourite Carol I am guessing?

  5. Had an awful line in this trite kiddies carol at the brownies service the other night. ended with the line ‘Darling, darling , little man’ Bluech !

  6. HA HA!! to clever for me by half!!

  7. Not just any Carol, she’s a Christmas Carol. Born 24th December 1960.

  8. I like that trad tune Helen, but also like the one that the Americans seem to sing a lot – nice version of it by Sarah Maclachlan here. And I like the Cliff version too I have to admit ;)

  9. I love the version of Silent night you linked to, but I also love this version

All time favourites are Little Town of Bethlehem and The Coventry Carol.

Ah, and Chris, “Darling darling little man” is the rocking carol, been a mainstay of children’s carol services since the year dot I think (and should be sung with a serious lisp and any other child-like speech impediment for best effect.) I think I prefer it to the other usual offering of “lickul DonnnnnKi” though!

  10. Oh, thanks for the Sussex carol. We used to go carol singing every year for Action Aid, when I was a kid, and that was always a favourite. I like the jolly tune and words. I also find “darling, darling little man” quite hideous, C!
