OK, having written this 8 times and its got lost, it doesn’t seem to like a titel or a link [fails to save or publish!]

Beethovens violin concerto, absolutely fab. I fell in love with it and learned to play it after my grade 8. Spent the whole weekend attached to my violin. eventually good enough to play it wth an orchestra. tempts me to get violin out again!

Musical monday – Handel Xerxes

i love the sound of a counter tenor. SO I have chose this, as one of my favourite counter tenor arias from Handel’s opera Xerxes. I saw this once at the ENO – really fab production. Actually, i think this version better!

Musical monday – Saint saens symphony number 3

well i had too, this was our marriage music! I love the whole symphony. it was also the piece i played a couple of years back with the High Wycombe Symphonia – with my mum and sister also in the orchestra. prob the last time we will all play together properly like that. It will always give me good memories. this is not the best recording obviously, as it is youtube!

Musical Easter Mondays – well, it had to be cav!

here is cavalleria rusticana by mascagni. I won’t tend to link dates and music! but i love opera, and this is a particular tear jerker [aren't all operas??] so thought I would do a topical monday link!

[and as an easter bonus, a second composer!]

Musical monday – Bach brandenburg concerti

I love them all, but have to say my first love will be my favourite. I first played this at the county string orchestra -? was i about 11? Anyway, this is number 3. I can still play a fair wack of it without music! tell me when we have enough home-edders to do this? I suppose number 2 a close favourite, and with our current recorders, violins and continuo set up [Jade had better keep up with cello!!] mix, could be the one for the future [sort of!]. for the other movts, can we find a trumpet? Actually, maybe number 5… did i say i love all 6??
And feel free to join in on the music meme – Sarah and Jax have. doesn’t have to be classical, doesn’t have to have a theme, just what you are liking, thinking about, singing now.

Musical Monday 5 – Aaron Copeland

I have really enjoyed playing his music – most noticeably the hoe down from rodeo [I coudn't find the string orchestra version on u-tube - far better! Anna should play it sometime...]. but todays main link is to the simple gifts from his appalachian spring. the ‘tune’ might be recognizable to many! There are a number of versions on utube. i chose this one as photos with it. would have prefered a video visual of the appalachians though…

Monday music 4 – bruckner

i have played this in a lot of youth and uni orchestras. i had always associated bruckner with the load and ready brass, and to be fair, the brass are important. but this is a very lyrical symphony, and brings back lots of good memories

musical monday 3 = marriage of figaro

this has always been a great favourite opera of mine, not sure which aria i prefer, i love the lot. i have played the overture a lot too, and hearing it start always makes me smile. i have done another amazon listen to samples [chosen for being in english rather than for the recording], as looking for a utube! here , here, here and here. Actually i was glad to find renee fleming and the dove sono, as its one of my favourite performances. obviously high opera isn’t for everyone though..

musical monday 2 = mnemosyne and officium

i thought i might try for a series of posts when i remembered putting audio links to music i love.

this – the hilliard ensemble and mnemosyne by jan Garbarek i heard a couple of times and was transfixed, and had to do quite a bit of searching before i found out what it was and could buy it. it is not perhaps the most accessible of classical music [unlike the vaughn williams].

It has also been fairly impossible to find much of a link, but here is one , albeit short. try the mnemosyne ones or the officium ones for the hilliard ensemble. haunting. Also samples on amazon. I don’t think all the tracks work, but the idea… and when it does work for me, it WORKS!

musical monday 1 = dives and lazarus

hmmm, i think Vaughn Williams has captured my soul. this and the lark ascending is some of my favourite music
