It’s Stringbean’s delayed birthday party tomorrow, so I’ve spent the evening icing the cake that she and Helen made the other day. The design was her request (it didn’t involve pink…..!)
I’m quite impressed with myself really :-)

  1. what about the party/photos!!

  2. wow, I’m quite impressed too! It’s nearly as good as the Teletubbies one I did for Anna’s first birthday, why I bothered I’ll never know …
    Hope she likes it!

  3. she requested not only the subject matter, but also the very image, including that there had to be trains tracks. Very specific! Not sure what all the other kids will make of my home made carrot cake. It did actually turn out better than the one I gave Jax – maybe as MUCH bigger.

  4. Oh, I love decorating cakes, thoigh didn’t bother to much when SB was small, but last year did her a Bob the Builder one. In one sense it seems a bit of waste of time to spend ages doing a cake which we demolished in no time. But in a way that is the point i think. I can still remember some cakes made for me when I was a boy Tht you are willing to put the effort on, for what is such a trasnient pleasure says much about how much you care about someone.

  5. Blimey, that’s fantastic :) My children think cakes come from shops, and tbh I’m not going to disabuse them of that … Well, not unless you start taking commissions ;-)

  6. Fantastic! Tamsin is requesting a Thomas cake for her birthday in June (no surprise there!) and Tesco do a very nice one, but I feel as though I ‘ought’ to do it myself … and I’d probably enjoy it if I give myself enough time.

  7. very good indeed :-) I enjoyed doing S’ Dora one in the end – did spend a fortune on icing though :-)

  8. Wow what a fab cake!

  9. That’s an impressive cake! Happy Birthday!

  10. Chris- I make money from doing this! Have you thought about it? Bloody marvellous!!!

  11. That’s lovely. I make mean cakes, but I’m no good at icing them, so they end up very worthy cakes, with a sprinkle of icing sugar snow on top as a concession to a party.

  12. Ros- Well, Alison may have been joking about commissions, but I did get paid for doing a few cakes long ago when I lived in Brighton (friends of friends type arrnagements), not sure I really have enough skills to egt people to pay properly for though.

Joanna – it’s a million times more statisfying to do it yourself, and I’m sure the kids appreciate it more. and a ‘side view Thomas’ is fairly easy really,
