aaargh – edited for kirsty ;?)

resident on call at the hospital, so emailed myself various bits of research/audit and protocols to do.
Can’t access my hospital email.
aaaghh, aaaaghh and more aaagghh!!

what a gorgeous day. Hope chris is putting suncream on.

Must think which thing I can start to do without my emails.

Sonlight order done – only ?20 over budget.
Anyway, have been waiting to do it for 6 months for finances, and felt we really should get going so that when we are feeling official in Sept, I can look at shelves and not worry.

Actually I am not worring about home-ed, as SB very good at demonstrating that learning by osmosis thing. I am really looking forward to continuing to do it, and particularly once she can read. [I do wish I personally was going to be doing more of it though]. I start to wobble a bit about secondary ed, but as my aunt [a secondary ed teacher] says, thats when it will be the most needed. Think I will think in 4 year chunks though. At the moment it is easiest for me to think of it as delayed school entry [ie 8!] and justify it to all and sundry without being expected to have some GCSE schedule all thought out. At that point we can see how we are doing, and how happy we all are, and if feels the right thing, carry on for another 4 years.

edited - this is what i ordered
archaeologists dig for clues
greek myths for young children
maps and globes
aesop for children
ready set go for the code, and explode the code [no's 1-3, not at amazon silly money price though!]
getty and dubay a-c [really is silly money at amazon!]
sonlight timeline and K and 1 figures
susan wise bauer story of the word vol 1

  1. so what did you order then? Sorry never got chance to comment on what I got, was just coming on to see what had been said but, oh well never mind!

  2. you can still tell me what you think of what you’ve got, and what I should have ordered!!

  3. its helen here, but I nearly got some of the other sellers in amazon, but couldn’t see how the shipping worked. so chickened out! Anyone know? [and some things were just from sonlight]

  4. well out of that lot I got Archaeologists dig for clues, Aesop for children and the timeline. Not looked at the first yet so can’t comment. The Aesop is the one that they say is preferred on the CM Ambleside curriculum because it’s illustrated by Milo Winter, it looks good. There are loads of the fables in it too. I love the timeline, and although it isn’t cheap it’s much better (imo) than printing it all off, much too much hassle for me!

I love the Childs book of Art and it’s much cheaper than the K Art electives but it really only has works of art in under different groups like counting (one picture has 1 kid in, one has 2 etc) but I do like it. My 2 like looking at it occassionally.

Didn’t get any reading or handwriting stuff as just spent on all the JP stuff in Feb and can’t be doing with handwriting books, never really saw the point, but maybe one day I’ll change!

I got some maths manipulatives, the pattern blocks and linking cubes. I also looked at what I had wanted and basically checked what Amazon didn’t have and ordered that thinking I could do an Amazon order at another time. So I got a couple of Early Reader books (but much too hard for M atm) Little Bear, a Titanic one and Greg’s Microscope (about sciency stuff I think). I know you didn’t ask what I got but lol!!

  5. yeah, but thats what I wanted to know! i mainly went for the handwriting as chris and i have terrible handwriting. Also wanted the timeline as too much faff. i think iwill do another order next year and think of the readers.

i got some maths manipulatives last year. was tempted by pattern blocks this year but had run out of money!
