  2. released! aha!! yep. anyone used one?

  3. hello – have i been killed off?

  4. Warning!!!!!!!!! These things tangle up hair. The only way to release them is to get out the scissors. The beads don’t stay in easily either – you need a lot of band to hold them up. Having said that, her hair may be more suited if it is less fine and flyaway than ours and if she wants it she wants it.

  5. erm, yeah, we’ve had them too – had being the operative word.

They don’t tend to produce a very good result really, unless you have very long hair I would have said – mainly because you can’t put the hair into them easily, you have to leave a good inch hanging out of the end of the machine. Then you have to be careful not to twist too much (ie not really something for the kids to do on their own), and *then* you have to not let them untwist while you tie them …

I’m trying to think of what might be a good alternative, the wrap-makers have similar problems although I’d probably say they are preferable, they just take a steady adult hand to do – and then at least they stay in a long time! I have had some good results out of our one of those, once I got used to how to do it.

Or how about one of those colour highlighter thingies like the one Gwenny has? Although that’s maybe not terribly good for dark hair!

hmmm! sorry, not much help, eh?!

  6. The colour highlighter thing worked ok on my hair, though obviously not as dramatically as on lighter hair. You just have to remember not to leave it on the floor and let everyone walk on it so it breaks – Gwenny doesn’t have hers any more!

I’d think you’re better off getting some beads, some of the plastic doodahs that let you thread beads onto your hair, and a load of tiny bands, and offer her some little plaits. If she uses anything gadgety by herself, she’s very likely to get her hair really tangled up in it, so if you’re going to be doing it anyway, you might as well do it properly :)

  7. yep, you’re here Merry.
aaargh tBH I thought the sounded a dreadful idea, but she’s wanted one on and off since she saw the advert in the summer – and that’s quite a long time to say you want one for xmas. so i think we will have to get it and then write it off to experience. yep she has fine flyaway hair, she hates tangeles aarrgh
Alison, I’ll try suggesting the colour hair option.
but you all know how much she loves me putting hair into crazy designs, I often do multiple small braids [well 8 was my max] she likes the tiwrliness off it.

  8. Yep sometimes you just gotta get them what they want and let them learn themselves! D wanted a Willy Wonka chocolate factory thing which I could tell just from the picture in the argos catalogue would be a heap of rubbish. It was. And if cost about ?25 IIRC but it was all he wanted, he’d been talking about it for months and he’d have been really disappointed if on the day it hadn’t been what he’d unwrapped.

SB is used to you doing her hair so she may quite happily let you be the one in charge of it anyway. S has seen that thing before and expressed an interest in it but upon hearing she’d need perfectly brushed hair for it to work she decided against it

  9. We had one, Zoe’s hair got very tangled when using it. We do little plaits, braids with silko thread & beads. hth

  10. While I was searching for that I did see a hair beading thing – would that be an alternative? I suspect part of it is wanting a thing, isn’t it?

  11. no, i’ve suggested alternatives. however, now i know what to lookfor, have seen some on ebay more cheaply – it doesn’t seem o bad then since its what she really wants [in fact, the only thing she is asking for!]
