Visiting

they kicked little nanny out of the hospital tues eve with a sandwich following her knee replacement. She is barely mobile and told them family were miles away and needed warning. Never mind! I went with food and good cheer on wed, and she really needs it. Full of bravery however. Sb was a disaster really – in the most nice of ways but still. i had asked her to pack a bag for her and BB, being fairly explicit. so she took nothing for bb, and felt tips! for herself. nanny doesn’t have a kitchen table, and sb was going to do colouring in on the carpet, with BB loitering with nothing to play with – argh. I know, I should have done it myself, but I was packing car with food stuffs etc etc. She was also borderline waily as she needed a good run. Nanny’s house is small but perfectly formed, but def no running space. I was cooking/cleaning/listening.entertaining and genrally multitasking. The an awful drive back across the fens. Aargh. Worst really, is that i wish I lived close enough to pop in regularly rather than 2 hours away.

the girls have been to chris’s parents today so more visiting fun.

BB is just adorably gorgeous at the moment, with her language trying out, and giving us the low down all the time. I could do with her falling asleep though…

i am greatly unhappy at work, and think I need a break to sort head out about how to resolve things [but not another broken limb, thankyou cosmic supply co!]

  1. Urg! Sounds like a lot on your plate. Hope little nanny’s new knee gets more usable soon.

  2. thanks Bob. I really hope so. I offered her convalescence here, but she is much happier – she says- in her own home

  3. Sorry to hear you are so unhappy at work Helen – its vile to feel like that. I hope that little nanny recuperates quickly. It’s horrible to be so far away from family in circumstances like that.

  4. (((((((Helen)))))))

  5. thanks. battlestar galactica is my current antidepressant – not particularly successfully, but no bad side effects [apart from a couple of weird dreams!]

  6. Thinking of you Helen xxx

  7. urg to hospitals that don’t look after you and yours properly!!! Really hope you get something sorted soon.

  8. hope little nanny recovers quickly and that things get sunnier for you.

  9. wail at work and wail at tough times. more gossiping soon i think.

  10. ‘Little Nanny’? How spooky is that? My ‘Little Granny’ was also sent home from hospital this week (having fallen down the stairs last month). Sounds like a similar story re the help. They (my grandparents) were assessed and deemed as needing no extra support other than meals on wheels. WHAT? For the last month they (at least my home-alone granddad) has had almost daily visits from members of the family (of which I am the only one closer than 3 hours drive away) because he simply can’t look after himself anymore, and now he’s expected to care for my gran too. One day we didn’t manage resulted in a passing stranger having to call the police for help! It’s such a postcode lottery. Last year when my other granny was in a similar situation, social services came round daily for 6 weeks. But as you say; home is where they want to be. So sympathies from me too.

Oh, and actually, she’s not *my* little granny; she’s the children’s. Little=Great in our family. (((Helen)))

  11. glad I caught you out of the akismet trap Barbara. Yes, Little = great here too, she is my Nanny, but I tend to say Little Nanny as that is SB’s reference [though my nephew calls her Momma]
    postcode lotteries suck.

  12. Thought it might be. No offfence, but I thought you’d be doing quite well to have a great grandmother yourself ;-)

Unfortunately R doesn’t seem happy to tow the line. She will not refer to my grandad as ‘Little Grandpa’ as she (rightly) points out that he isn’t. So she calls him ‘Big Grandpa’ which confuses the other two as ‘Grandpa’ (my dad, who they assume she must be talking about) isn’t. Clear as mud?
