Not as planned

We did a very good job of cleaning the front room, and put a smidgeon of floor polish on. SB helpful and delightful.

We decorated beer glasses for FIL

my parents arrived, put down new rug in front room, and ran after daughters screeching chase me, and MIL has a colles fracture. So off to A and E. she is still in a fair amount of pain, thinks things swelling up loads and now painful again. I’m trying to work out if she means painful enough to go back to a and e, but she has gone off to bed.

I feel truly dreadful and totally lost Xmas spirit

  1. Oh Helen :( Of course it was just an accident and nobody’s fault, but that doesn’t make it any easier. I really hope that the pain will lessen for her. Is she in plaster? Sending you all lots of love anyway.

  2. Oh, sending lots of love from here too. How horrid. Hope she feels a bit better this morning.

  3. Darling Helen,

The thing about Christmas is it is all about love; your love in making it nice for them, their love in bringing the rug, the love of the chase that caused an ACCIDENT, the love of your worry now and the love your mum has for you that means that your distress now will make her sadder than any physical pain could.

And the saving of Christmas will be the love of you caring for her andh er caring for you and being together, warm and snuggled up and doing the things that make you all okay again.

So go do it :) AND LOTS OF LOVE from me to you.

  4. ah, you just made me cry [again!] Thankyou

  5. Oh, what a horrible thing to happen. I hope you all manage to have a good Christmas despite it, and especially that your Mum’s pain goes.

  6. oh no Helen! Hope it’s settled for her a bit by morning and that you are recovered from the shock. These things happen and they are called accidents cos tehy are no one’s fault. Duke says could the increase pain be down to the trailing off of the adrenalin that kicks in initially and any meds she was given at A&E wearing off? (which was what he found when he did his arm the other year)

  7. Saw your twitters but only just made it online to offer sympathy and echo what others have said. Hope it doesn’t dampen the whole thing too much for you all xxx

  8. thanks all, mum now has some tramadol as well for the pain. aargh. she is doing her best to play with the girls [who are being gentle] but def not on the list of christmas!

  14. Awww, Helen!
Just passing through and read this :(
Hoping everyone is feeling better today (well, your mum and you, mainly) and that even if Christmas is not going to be quite as planned, everyone can still enjoy each other’s company, be happy and thankful for that and find find a little of your lost Christmas spirit somewhere along the way.
    Lots of love, Barbara x
