SB has taken very well that she can’t go on the rainbows sleepover. there is room for only 15 people, and it was decided whilst she was away. they could have rung us and asked us if it was ok, but it was easier not to, as only room for 15 out of the 18. i was quite proud of SB taking it so well, though quite grumpy at the political expediency side of it. she said she would have quite liked a sleepover. grumble grumble

hm, that seems unfair to say the very least, not quite sure what life lesson is on offer there!

They should have found some way of accommodating all 18. That seems most unjust. When is it? Could you arrange something even more fun instead that she couldn’t have done had she been on the Rainbows sleepover?

I’m loathe to be grumpy about this. I’m not sure of the details of it, where it is or anything, but for whatever reason the place will not let them take more than the 15, I think from conversation tonight she said he’d spoken to them again - maybe when they’ve done it before (I assume they have) they didn’t get full? I don’t know
but in the end the person who runs it puts in lots of work organizing things etc. (and as is the way, they are involved in various other village activities it seems) ok so maybe sometimes they do a less then perfect job, but other than the once a term or so bit of parental help at the sessions (not exactly demanding) we aren’t all jumping up to offer our services.

not that I think this is fair in any way or form (there should have been names out of a hat or other such random selection process) I suspect the restriction on number is down to facilities both for the girls and the guiders. you have to have proper beds for a Rainbow sleepover, no sharing beds top to toe, a seperate sleeping area for any young leader and another seperate area for adult guiders of which there need to be 1 for every 4 Rainbows (I know cos I wanted to do one and gave up when I looked at the logistics) That usually leaves you using a “proper” Guide or Scout holiday hut/cabin and being restricted by how many bunks they have rather than bedding them all down on a church hall floor.

I know that, and the rainbow leader is fab and enthusiastic. but when SB is in a group where the others are all in the same class but one, it seems just too easy to think thats an easy exclusion. of course, i have to hold my hand up to social pariah paranoia, but…
