my poor little girl

i am starting at the end of the day, as this is where my head is parked. Poor SB got herself trapped in the bike wheel cycling back in tandem from judo. when chris carried in i had a look and heart jumped into mouth as a clear full thickness off in quite a large area – pretty much the whole of one side of her foot. so hopped into car and a+e . the consultant looked at it and we got x-rayed – calcaneal hairline fracture, but no weight bearing allowed. the full thickness friction burn has been dressed, and she is on antibiotics. looks really awful. i am worried about it. it is going to take ages to heal at best, and i am going to head in sand about other alternatives.

TBH, at the moment i am wondering what i am being punished for.

Bless her, she is really upset because on top of that we are going this weekend for our 2 week caravan holiday with my sister and children – beach, pool, ice-skating, walks etc. oh yes, she can’t do any of them. total crapness.

eearlier in the day we had a lovely time at the deep end doing science experiments and playing, but TBH, that seems decades ago.

  1. I can’t think of anything to say that will make things any better. But am thinking of all of you lots – C and H this is not to do with you,it is just one of those kid accidents that we all have scars to show evidence of in adulthood. Much, much love xxxxx

  2. Lots of love to you, Chris and of course SB. Accidents do happen so hope no one is beating themselves up about it. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

I don’t think you’re being punished for anything – perhaps it’s to make you glad when you finally get to 40?

  3. oh no, twitter was rubbish here last night and I thought you’d said it wasn’t that bad.

Love to all of you from here too, will be thinking of you today. I’m sure you’ll all find a way to help SB enjoy the holiday just as much, even if she can’t do the activities she’s planned.

  4. sending hugs again – never can have too many hugs. It is just one of those things so please don’t think it is yourself to blame.

  5. I can’t add anything that hasn’t already been said and I agree wholeheartedly with the others so all I can do is send hugs for you all.

Hope SB recovers soon and that you all manage to have a good holiday.

  6. We’re all very sorry to hear about SB. One of the costs of a normal childhood rather than one where you’re enveloped in bubble wrap by your parents is the risk of accidents. Doesn’t make it much easier when an accident happens though. Ugh to healing happening during the holiday :(. Hope it’s somehow still enjoyable.

  7. t-bird anni

ow! Poor SB! Sending her and all the rest of you huge hugs and huge wishes for speedy and really good healing!

  8. Oh poor SB, horrible timing with the holiday too. Please don’t beat yourselves up, accidents do happen, just like that. Will be thinking of you and hope the healing goes well.

  9. Sarah, it didn’t look so bad at first glance. Unfortunately it was worse that it looked at first.

H and SB gone back off to hosp for follow up appts.

Have bought some waterproof protector things that hopefully mean she will be able to go on the beach and swim a bit in the pool

  10. what a good Daddy you are! Waterproof protector things didn’t occur to me.

  11. That’s so terrible. Hope the wound heals qucikly! Please don’t blame yourself-you didn’t do it to her. I wish someone could come up with a good way to rid guilt from the mindset of all humans. It causes more pain than the accidents.

  12. michelle, my mum remembered about them from her recent fracture… soi google was our friend, and i checked in hosp today that they would be ok. can’t be on for over 20 mins at a time as makes too hot and sweaty, but a 20 min dip in the pool is better than none

  13. Oh, poor little SB and poor the rest of you! Hope healing goes well. You’ll have to find lots of movies, games, sweets and stuff for making the holiday fun still. Not wanting to make light in any way but I recall the time after a horrific scald when I was a kid and it wasn’t all bad as I got lots of chatting and cuddling and siblings being nice to me and fetching things for me! These things happen to us all – honestly. Not anyone’s fault and no punishment – just life.

  14. Poor wee thing. Kids do heal remarkably well, so I hope that’s the case, and that you all manage to have a lovely holiday, even if slightly different from the one you planned.

  15. She was a poor little soul today; i hope she carries on perking up. It is awful when they get the stuffing knocked out of them and i always feel really enraged when my babies are hurt. Yucky.

    Lots of hugs to all.

  16. Oh dear! Much much sympathy. Ds went through a stage of frequent visits to A&E. Absolutely horrid — but as others have said, not your fault!

  17. Oh dear, poor SB – I’m sorry to hear this. Wishing her a speedy recovery x

  18. thanks everyone. SB happy that so many sent her love and sympathy

  19. poor sb! give her big hugs from us. Hope she is feeling better and that you all have a nice holiday.

  20. Oh poor SB! I’m just catching up and now the twitters I’ve caught (when it’s been up!) all make sense! I do hope she feels much better very soon.
