but i am going to get a bit of backpay next month. it should be used to help fix the conservatory, but i would like a really quick up and down nightstop tent.
i was thinking perhaps of the vango sigma 400. i want something that will stay up in a hurricaine, is quick to put up, light and packs small – so that if we ever cycle camp, it would be just about OK .
any alternative suggestions, or experience??

The Sigma has something like two feet less width in the bedroom than your Venture and a much lower roof. So you might end up feeling a bit cramped. Also, although it certainly looks very robust, the Sigma is not a 4 season tent… if you want something to survive a hurricane then get a Hurricane… but the price is very different.
Does cross my mind that at an undefinable point in the future you might want to think about two x two person tents for things like cycle touring, in the meantime the Sigma is quite cheap and I would have thought would likely serve you very well, …. unless you were being literal when you said hurricane.

well, yes, i was looking at some more expensive tents that really are proper 4 season tents as it were, but really, i don’t mean hurricane, i mean overnighters that are reliable in wind – that would be fine perhaps at SOTP

Ah…to even think about small tents..! Our weekender for SOTP next year is our XL Vermont!! We don’t fit in anything much smaller – LOL. As it is the big boys need a ‘throw up’ tent to pitch in the porch if we don’t want to squash everyone in! One day…
I still have my tiny 1-2 man 15yr old A-frame ridge tent from my backpacking days of youth, and bar needing new elastics for the inner tent it’s in excellent nic. It stood up to some howling nights on the South Downs Way in it’s time, but you can’t buy them these days

Oh yes you can Caroline – Good old force Ten.
Still love my old Spacepacker
Anyway, don’t need another small tent at the moment, let alone justify buying anothet tent at this moment. Maybe next year
Though this is tempting
a good deal compared to what it’s mopstly selling for

Yeah – my little ridge was a bit like that – but SMALLER! It sloped down at the back (2 x 2 poles at front in an A, only one single upright at the back. V light, V.strong – V.small. It was a Eurohike (Millets) Ridgeway – bet you can’t find one of those! I’ll blog a pic of it if I have one
Spacepacker looks cool, but mine was a LOT cheaper!
I’ve seen that other one – like the look of that too, but like you say..!
