you set my soul on fire

one of the things i would like to start doing is perhaps being slightly more, well, emotional on the blog. A lot of this reads as a catalogue of days, which is how it was set up. but over time it has become more catalogue of days and far less celebration of the 2 lovely children we have. I don’t mean do a gushy gushy blog, but occassionally mark things they do, things i love about them.

one of the things that has set this off is that despite a lot of internet activity, including a myspace blog, my sister hasn’t really left written evidence of love that children later on can see. I don’t know whether they need to, when we – The Family – will be the physical reminders of that. however, i wonder whether my girls will read this and roll their eyes at each other saying it reads like a school report – actually, i think that i would love them to be reading at tutting at me in the huge future, and just know that chris and i adored them. But think that once in a while on blog, it might be good not to just sound like a shopping list!

Hence the title. often, when we are being silly, we quote the tom and jerry love scene and then do stage kisses up arms etc ‘you set my soul on fire. it is not just a little spark, but a flame, a giant roaring flame’ [complete with hammed up french accent]. it is true.

  1. Grin.

You gush away my dear, I promise to read. (Although I have noticed that bearing one’s soul on one’s blog tends to scare off people who know you in real life a bit!)

  2. not *that* much :)

  3. No – and one of the reasons I carry on blogging is for that very reason, Helen, having also been left with very little tangible ‘stuff’ to remember my own mum. And in a family that really doesn’t talk about her, sometimes even now I wish I had something.

I hope if anything ever happened to me, the children would have it as a memento of how much I love them and how proud I am of them when they are fantastic, as well as all the mundane life stuff. I don’t think you need to gush for that, necessarily – it comes through in the humdrum as well :)

And having said all that, I know that you and the rest of Viv’s family will make totally sure her children will know full well that they were loved so much.

  4. I don’t think the girls will miss all the love in your posts! All your posts about how you hope you are doing your best for the girls will speak volumes of your love! All the records of the wonderful day-trips, cuddles, story times, walks and holidays will remind them of all the fun you had together.

Maybe put a memory book together for Viv’s children? Include stories of Viv’s childhood, trips she took pre-children, her favourite songs and films? They’ll enjoy those in the future. Include things like where you lived as children–I love that my dad kept a record of all his homes, and he kept a front door key of all his homes! Kieran plays with them all the time! :) That’s all I have of his, and a little cross his dad gave him the day my dad immigrated to America. Not much–but I treasure them greatly!

  5. Grin ;) It’s good for my soul.

    What Sarah said :)
