We need help! we have had 2 cats for nearly 14 years now [rescue kittens, so done well ] and v periodically they have had fleas, noticed by me because i get 4 or 5 bites, and we realise we are a bit late with the frontline and get it done. HOwever, we have a plague of fleas. at the start of the half term weekend i was getting upwards of 30bites a day. we put advantage on the cats and have currently confined them to the ‘room of doom’ [utility room] have moved tortoise and fish and have flea bombed and sprayed all the rooms must be at least 2ce if not 3 times. i am still getting bitten. i am using max piriton and eurax for my itching, and wearing mosquito repellant hopefully. i think there are less, but not enough less. This eve I have caught another flea [in sellotape so hoping to look at under microscope ]
I am reluctant to continue flea bombing and spraying so frequently as can’t be good for the rest of us! candles in water didn’t help. SO, any good plans, or if i need to bomb and spray, any tried and tested regimes. should i let the cats back in so fleas bite them and die, or will that worsen the flea problem.
or shall i just move out.
When we had our infestation in the summer I did read that you are meant to let the cats have the run of the house so that the fleas jump on them and then die. It is horrible though, makes you feel dirty as well as itchy I think.
Looking at them under a microscope is not my idea of fun education …
Someone I know recommended some flea traps to me (I’ve got 4 cats and she has a fair few herself). I’ve just messaged her to ask her what the link was again and will try to remember to send it to you.
I have to admit, we’ve had some flea problems of late too.
ooh, thanks have opened door to cats, but think they are happier in room of doom snuggled against boiler! but also will give flea traps a go
June got back to me with the following – no particular make, but this kind of thing: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FLEA-TRAP-TRAPS-BUGS-SILVERFISH-CAT-CRANE-DRAGON-FLYS-/230507944911?pt=UK_Home_Garden_Garden_Plants_Weed_Pest_Control_CV&hash=item35ab581bcf
