Well Actually….

I sit down to blog today, and find H has reprised it already ….. Well that’s me for the week ;-)

Additons:

needed to send Grandad J’s birthdays cards off today, SB decided she had something to finish on it, so spent more time faffing about with stickers, meaning we left later to go to Nanna and Grandad F’s than intended. And because it was encrusted with great big fluffy pom-poms they? needed to go as a large letter, so a quick trip to the post office was needed. Well, at least I realised – unlike some people :-)

Noticed my Dad has some weird? thing on his eye – some sort of? swelling under the bottom lid – really quite big – GP had no idea really – not seen anything like it (nor did the other doc there), so he is off to the Eye hospital in the morning. hope it’s nothing to major.

Trauma of the Day? – finding out Little toe Radio Show has gone, not listened to it for a couple of weeks, but Stringbean has really loved it. Went to find it? (on listen again on the BBC website), but it seems to be no more :-)

There is something called Cbeebies Radio, but we tried a bit of that, but first impressions weren’t good – a number of old pop songs from years ago which seemed rather odd, I think there was a story, but amongst the songs and the chatter and drivel . In fact my initial impression was sort of like ‘radio drivel – aka most radio nowadays’ for littlies. Big toe has? into Big toe Books’, so may give that a go. not sure if she won’t find the stories a little old for her, though. Anyway, grump, grump.

we’re back – thanks jax

Writing in my head.

Stringbean was talking about doing mental arithmetic last night. she desicrbed the process  as ‘Writing in my head’. Which I rather liked.

Fed up with Wikipedia?

Don’t like the liberal, anti-Christian, anti-American bias of Wikipedia, then maybe you should look to Conservapedia.?

Under the Examples of Wikipedia bias I thought that the one (no. 7) ‘uses foreign spelling’ amusing, as well as inaccurate – search Wikipedia for colour for example. And -’ise’ and ‘ize’ are both considered correct spellings in British English. Anyway, many of the alleged examples of bias seem to be just general criticisms of Wikipedia, (and there is plenty to criticise) rather than bias.

One of the criticisms is about the article on Feudalism , reading the insightful Conservapedia article which summarises Feudalism in Europe as ‘In the feudalism system everyone wins but some win more than others‘ I know which I’d prefer.

Preparations

Ok, you are organising a birthday tea in your house for 13 children, just how much tidying is it worth doing…..? ;-)

Certainly I am not vacuming the dining room.

” I’m not scared “

When we stayed at Chez Making it Up earlier this year, Small showed Butterbean upstairs. He started of by saying ‘You don’t need to be scared, there is no crocodiles’ :-)

BB still now often says‘Im not scared’ when going up stairs. She did it earlier today when we went up the back stairs. And I heard her saying it in some game she was playing with the castle, whne she had soem character going up and down the steps :-)

Little things can have such an impact on young minds….

rewind to wed

we’re not really doing a good job of blogging in order are we?

I guess wed was really a game of 2 halves, but i didn’t balance them well. Sb def losing out to BB. Must do better really. we did get a fair bit of home ed done -sb mostly confident with the subtractions [54-28 type] now, and did a fair bit of maths on edu city – multiplying. Also her reading is nicely moving along. she is really enjoying reading, and a while back i bought a set of usborne young readers from the book people, and now she is racing through them, they are pretty much dead right for what she wants to read. must give back merry her ORT 8 as well as read well now.

She has done some more of the chinese books from enchanted learning, and liked the numbers. She is finding it particularly amusing that 2 looks like=. it is making the maths slightly tedious as we have ‘the joke’ about all the 2′s each time. But lets face it, its a good joke, and she is really happy saying it.

We read random pages out of an encyclopaedia – insects, industrial revolution, volcanos, and talked quite a lot about evolution.

BB and i did a lot of playing, cuddling and messing about. we built towers and boats out of blocks, and knocked them down again, read books, danced and messed about.

After lunch we piled outside to enjoy the sunshine, sowed some carrots and make a makeshift cloche/polytunnel affair to put over the row. I did a fair bit of weeding, and the girls did lots of playhouse and climbing frame play as well. They did help chris with pruning the grapevine, and i popped the babyswing seat on the tri-swing [just as BB growing too big!] She did love it, and SB pushed her as she giggled. Lovely.

When we came in, all girls [including me] turned into grumpalumps for some unknown reason. BB screeching like a banshee over who knows what, SB wailing and me stroppy. so we divvied up, and SB had piano and violin lesson and Daddy kept BB occupied. The peace restored, we read, played games [spot the animal!] and the day back on track.

Every evening this week, SB and I have had an extra 30 mins of games or reading – whatever she wants – before her bed following the departure of BB. SB is really appreciating this.

Today I got home earlier to have a bit more time, and we mostly played and did some tidying up. We made a chocolate brownies – didn’t get the timing right – they were in and out of the oven like yoyo’s! more games and reading and a nice bedtime.

SB’s birthday this sunday. have the castle, no wrapping paper, and family arriving tomorrow to house of chaos!

oh, and i forgot to say, that BB is quite insistant she is a boy ladybird!

trying out the clustermap thingy [thanks greer]
