hmm, getting cd’s to work

Well, I got the DK world and science explorers from ebay, they work on windows 98 and we have XP. chris can normally fiddle with things to get them to work, but not this time. Grump.
Anyone use them on XP, and have a fiddle that gets them to work??
Was thinking of a few other cdroms including zoombinis, but they are also ’98, so a bit reluctant to buy something else that doesn’t work. [obviously ebay only at the mo!]

Work has emailed re contract, and I think finally we might get that sorted out. After all, I was only employed in October!!

On house move front, spoke to solicitor re the indemnity thing, as Chris wrote to them agreeing, but as it is *my* house, i have to confirm it!! He said sale might fall through without, so gritting teeth and paying up.

A nursery day, which she seems to have had fun in. Certainly a really jolly gorgeous girl all evening when she got home, and remarkably easy to go to bed. bit miserable that we still can’t get the science explorer to work, as she wants to have a go.

Well, a giggly girl now. Unfortunately, she enjoys ‘near throws’ up in the air – and at the weight she is, I can’t do many in a row! Certainly having great fun with rattles, baby gym and a pudding club cube that MIL got her from ELC. Squawking again, so I am making this quick!

Me
well, I think I have a lurgy, as soooooooo tired, hot and bothered etc. Think i need some sunshine!

Chris

  1. you have tried the xp compatibility wizard? or right click on the program icon, select properties, compatibility, then ‘run as Win 98′ or whatever? Works fine for all my DK CDroms and Zoombinis too. :)

  2. http://www.learnatglobal.com/html/xp_sound.html

Download patch and bingo :~) Worked here anyway. I CAN’T get some of their older games to work, but science explorer does.

  3. I got the Maxi Cosi for Little chick and she likes it. It is sort of black velvet. It slightly reclines as she does tend to go to sleep in the car so the high back and side wings help stop her head from lolling side to side. The bottom attaches to a plastic base that fits through inbetween the back of the seat and the bottom to give it that stability to stop it moving. My friend got a similar one but it was so annoying because the back part kept coming away from the seat when you were carrying it and it either hit you or the ground. This one is securely attached to the bottom part but can be removed easily. You just use the seatbelt with it but I think it is pretty safe0 as it does not go around the neck. We had the same problem with one or two DK CDs but Steve got a fix from somewhere. If you haven’t found it by the time he gets home – late tonight – I will ask him what he did.

  4. Hope you get the science exploreer sorted soon- it’s a big hit here. I also bought it off ebay and later a history explorer but I can’t get the sound to work on that one:-( Very disappointing as it looks great fun. Think I’m going to give zoombinis a go.

  5. tried the xp wizard asnd doesn’t help.

  6. I’ve got a fix somewhere – let me look. Ah – here it is :http://www.gsp.cc/faq/support.html
I haven’t looked for the actual page, but this is where I found it, and ours works fine on XP now. It’s Carmen Sandiago I’ve never managed to get working on XP :-(

  7. Just checked the link, and they’ve moved, but here is the new one: http://www.gsp.cc/faq/support.html

  8. Hm – am I being moderated, or is there something wrong with the blog? Anyway, I have the fix, if you still need it, let me know.

  9. If there is a fix, yes please Joyce/Karen. Tried the compatability settings but no help. both won’t run, complaining of (different) errors regarding the sound. One installed and ran under win2k opn the desktop, but then would get hung at some point, repaeting the same sounds. Not tried it under XP on the desktop though (not usually used on there)

  10. I keep posting it (before and after the post above), and it isn’t coming through at all on the blog – expect a rush of them downloading in about three days. Could it be getting bounced becuase its got a link in the comment? Do you know my email address? I don’t think I’ve got yours. If you let me have it off blog, I can send it direct. It’s just a DK patch, and it worked on all of my DK cds, including the ones you mention.

  11. all in a rush with the patches !! woohoo – I hope chris ow sorting things out!

  12. Ah yes, sorry, Merry and joyce, some rather ‘agressive’ spam filtering I’m afraid. The comments have been approved and now appear above, for completeness. Wil give it a try, thanks.

joyce, the modified link you posted was the same as the first one, however I did find the patch easy enough searching the FAQs via http://www.gspsupport.co.uk/index.php?page=support/freetext

And why is so much blog spam about p*o*k*e*r?

  13. Sitting on the hard drive here as I write my love :-)
