Wreathed in smiles

Today also a busy day! We did some ‘home ed’ – Piano practice [she is getting confident at good king wenceslas], maths and writing. BB did some painting. We read books together – a bit on the Saxons and Sutton Hoo with SB, and BB and I read a book where she pretended to sound out words [panic not, she was entirely making it up!]. Both girls have done a lot of singing.

We spent A LOT of time making some festive wreaths to go on various doors. SB really was pleased to do it, and didn’t make any fuss about holly – I did say it wasn’t compulsory! We also had ivy, pine and bay branches. BB decided not to make it, she did some stamping and also playing with various toys.

We then made some banana and chocolate muffins [to freeze for christmas breakfast – the list is gradually getting ticked off! Just in time for Nana and Grandad to arrive and give BB the wonderful farm for her birthday. [actually it isn’t quite that one, Merry ordered the other one for us [thankyou xx]. BB overjoyed and has played with it non stop since – as has SB.

Oh, I did manage to take some passable piccies of the girls with tree – see below! And, if you go to the pages on the sidebar, I am gradually doing a craft and bake post!

After BB into bed, SB and I have made cheese scones for tomorrow – we have a VERY busy day ahead! I am making the last curry – phew! Chris is making sausage rolls for tomorrow, all go here.

  1. I love the craft and bake page, that’s a lovely idea. You are great at that sort of thing. SB looks like she is having a ball with the wreath stuff!

  2. thanks sarah – now i am wreathed in smiles too.

  3. You really put so much effort into your ‘hosting’ duties! Not one dull thing in the list–where do you get all the recipes!

  4. quite a few of our recipes are Delia Smith recipes – she has her recipes online on her site. Muffins are from a muffin recipe book (from Lakeland IIRC) curries are our own thing. i’ve Still some soups to make, the base for sausage and Chilli bean casserole. Sb wants to make a cake from a recipe book she got from the library.

We have to be organised, H’s parents come on Friday and we’ve got a houseful from Sun to Wed.

Just done a final pre xmas Sainburys order -eek! – how much !

  5. bloody hell. Just looked at your list! So started thinking about my list….it went like this….ask girls what extra things they want for christmas. Go to shops to buy marshmellows and squirty cream.

    That was it!

I do have to sort out some bits for friends over at New Year.

  6. lol, I hadn’t looked at the list until that comment. We don’t have much out of the ordinary to do, either, I’ve just ordered one extra veg box from Riverford as I’m in charge of Christmas Day veg, but that’s it!

  7. LOL! I guess I am carrying on the Christmas that the family have alwayss gone for! Note that chris’s and my mum are helping out loads, and my Nan gave us a welcome cheque! But we don’t give huge presents, the being together at Christmas is the big thing.
I think having done 3 years in a row, next year we might go to Mum and Dads. The most stressful bit is actually looking at the house and wishing a house tidying and sorting genii would arrive!

  8. I think it’s lovely. On years when we’ve had people here I’ve had to be far more organised with food etc. than I am this year, but I will confess it’s quite nice to simply be on veg duty and nothing more! (and also nice not to worry about tidying up before people arrive never mind after they’ve all gone!)

Anyway I came here to say I just won that really easy violin duets book for 70p on ebay. So will have a look and see if there’s anything useful in it then send it on to you because you’re in charge!

  9. ooh, let’s see!!
I think I have made way too much curry, so those guests I have in the festive period may end up with curry!! [i have frozen it in margarine tubs - there are 9 each of the 2 'main' curries and 3 of dahl]
maybe too much lasagne – depending on whether cousin will be there [deathly silent!] as I have 20 normal portions, or 16 goodly portions!

  10. Well, we know what to give Merry and family New Years Eve :-)
