The BirthdayParty

photos will have to follow, as still on camera.

SB wet last night. our fault, as she was asleep when she came home from her party, and we didn’t lift her soon enough. So in bed with us. BB joined us at 5am. Hmm, must start waking to feed at midnight if it means otherwise an early feed.

I thought I might try and repeat the breakfast in bed thing, but SB joined me v early on with a book on spacetravel [we got it from dynamic earth]. So we both ate egg with soldiers whilst i read it. When we did get up, we came downstairs and did a rather nice picture of spacetravel. [science, art]

The day was so gorgeous, we went to the local park, which SB enjoys cycling around. today she was in rather a hurry to get to the cafe for cheese on toast. gloriously sunny though, with just a bit of a nip to the air. And I have finally sorted out moorhens vs coots in my head. [PE]

Back with a bit of a rush to get ready and out for the party. At least we weren’t late, though had to stop in Asda for candles on the way there. Party went v well, everyone seemed to be having fun, SB particularyl. We had one drop out due to illness, and one non-responder attend, so all evened out. [socialisation]
It did mean another haul of presents though, including some midi hama beads – v nice. A slush maker, jigsaws, lots of books some craft things and some very girly girl things. We opened them when we got home. We has some cake left over, approx 1/5. SB said she wanted it all, but that we could cut it in half to make it easier. on asking for a piece, she was adamant it was her birthday cake, but we did get a bite!

When SB went upstairs to bed with Chris, I had a wiggle and giggle with BB. It is nice to spend some time purely trying to make her laugh. She does it quite readily now, and particularly likes the word digger.

to my great shame, chips for tea. Not very waitwotchery at all.
obviously as a summary, another happy day. tes, there were the odd aarggh get your coat on etc moments, and SB has started screaming often just before I feed her, which I’m not liking? why?? but has been fun.

now for the daily news

SB woke us up – as usual – by crawling into our bed. I think it was just before 5. BB then woke up for a feed. To be fair, BB had slept through from about 10 o clock. this made SB completely perky. As she said, her blood had carried energy to all her body, and there was no sleep left. Sigh! At about 7.00, chris realised resistance was futile and got up. Yay! I spent another 2 hours in bed with BB, then got breakfast in bed. Almost makes up for the complete lack of mothers day I got. 4 in a bed too many though, and will have to buy a superking. the owners of the next house might sell us theirs for a song as it doesn’t fit in their bungalow.

SB proudly announced she had been doing ‘Art’ [it definitely had a capital to it!]. She got an art set for her irthday, with paints, felt tips crayons and pictures to colour in. She particularly liked the white crayon on black paper effect. We played with her dolls while eating my first breakfast, and her second. She is getting more imaginative with her stories as well. I got some kiss cuddle and tickle time in. We do lots of this, I just don’t tend to blog it – it would be a bit like blogging nappy changes!

When I got up and went to ‘puter, she remnded me we needed some more of the match and sort, so we got the next 6 pages of exeter maths printed off, and then did them all. Obviously with breaks for skipping, annoying daddy, getting felt tip and pen on sofa and sulking when they were put away! Yes, my fault for having them on the sofa. We usually do it at the kitchen table though. Daddy was trying to sweep the floor, and kicking the piles was not appreciated. Anyway shes got the bigger than etc stuff sorted. we had to give up on one of the matching to the number line exercises tough, as she was seeing how long the path could be, and after 2 interminable squiggles there was no clear paper left. I was a giggly heap as well, as she was giving the pen road directions.

Beans on toast for lunch, so nice and simple, and we whipped through some of the phonics flash cards. She’s definitely getting the hang of this, though if she guesses the word, she’s apt to say something begining with the last letter or letter sound cluster.

We both had quite a play with BB, getting her to hold and stretch for a rattle. She is giggling a lot, and it makes SB proud. though she says ‘are you making fun of me’ to BB at this point. They’ve both been in a sunny mood today.

She nipped next door to visit our neighbours and then out to her friend’s party. As Chris went to, hopefully he will add something. She came back fast asleep anyway.

I actually did housework [shock]. blogged, and fed and played with BB. Mostly jiggles, tickles and silly names. She really does love her pudding club cube. I also got a letter re my medical. After panicking, i’ve decided to waitwocher [is it tm?] my meals in points, and limit them to breast feeder amounts. hopefully will lose a bit, and get me in habit. I also found some riviying trash on telly – being americas next supermodel. fantastic! They are so bitchy.

so , another good day, relaxed vibe to it.

hmm, getting passwords to work?

even I can’t get in to my password protected blog. wahts that all about then?
i popped in the password in the advanced editing of wordpress where it says Post Password, and thought that bob should be my uncle? he obviously isn’t. Help!
Seems to work now as long as Iclick on the title, and then put in the password. Odd.
oh, and password with comment on a creditable daily mail kind of girl

Another fun day! and quite educational

HE
rather a productive day, with SB doing another 4 pages exeter maths 1a. I think she really has got to grips with the bigger and smaller thing. In the end I drew them [bigly - and yes, that word is in far from the madding crowd, so *must* exist!] in green and purple, so that the equals bit more noticeable. We also played around with the concept with manipulatives, people etc etc, having to swap places as I was the big end and she the small so that quite fun. this was liberally interspersed with pogoing up and down the room or skipping using a tape measure. SB is just such an energetic child. [so thats the PE box too!]

we had classic fm in the background, and SB did some dancing to it, and we discussed some of the pieces. She recognised some of the music as well – obviously not by name! digression alert!! That reminds me, at my parents to calm SB and my nephew down after hyper play, in which they accidently pulled down my parents curtains [big sigh!] they watched the fantasia video, and were much taken by the conductor being called mr stokovsky [or something phonetically similar], and whilst driving to Jax’s classic fm said a piece of music had been arranged by mr stokovsky, so SB piped up about it being the same one as fantasia. I was impressed.

We had fun sculpting crazy creatures out of playdough and the ELC bits [thanks again NIC]. And then made sushi with the dough, which BB and I had to pretend to eat. At this point I wasn’t sure whether we were playing the all time favourite of Mummies and Daddies, or its close runner up of Cafe. [art and drama!]

An eclectic lunch of samosa, bob the builder spaghetti shapes, pickled onions and apple [obviously her lunch!] and a calm time looking at new things on the cbeebies website. [IT]

We did some JP in the afternoon, and she’s showing interest in sounding out words in other books, though I have to do the squishing together until the word fairly obvious still. [hmm, didn't think i would get to write all this without NAKing]. got the dressing up things out and liberally scattered all over house. I was bob the builder, BB was Windy [sic] and she was………………………a princess fairy! Are all girls like this? I’m sure I wasn’t. The afternoon whizzed past, with SB making me giggle cos she really is a love [even though it sounds like I'm a bit whingy at the top of this post]

Friday is afternoon-snack-treat-Friday, and I was unable to find the popcorn, but found some sweets she got at the armouries museum last week, so she had those. We then cooked tea root veg curry together. I do try and cook tea with SB as often as poss. she enjoys it, we discuss what we are eating etc, and she whizzes up the veg she’s npt so keen on to go in the sauce [today mushroom, aubergine and red pepper] and cuts the easier veg [french beans]. Yummy!

Chris came home then [agency rang and asked him if he wanted to go back to loony tunes school today, so a lot of hysterical laughter and a no. so got to go to one a bit further up the madhouse evolutionary tree.] I took the opportunity to check other blogs and mails. SB watched a bit of cbeebies and chilled out with Dad.

After tea and bath [which both SB and BB love - cue mad splashing from both] SB wanted some pages from the usborne childrens encyclopaedia read – evolution of man, asia, breathing and polluting the planet. And for the bedtime book, she chose the dk i wonder why one on egyptians – history, geography and science!

I’m still trying to decided what I do with blogging, why I blog etc. I think it is partly diary, partly so that when I meet people IRL etc, there is more instant recognition as it were. [mind you at melrose I was told I wasn't much like my blogs, but my blogs are wordier since then]. Anyway, today I am going to do a feelings sumary!

I love my girls, we had a great fun day. SB is such a joyful child [when we are in the 90% gorgeousness!] and a pleasure to be with. BB also a really easy baby, making this transition from only child to a share as easy as it can be. I have background panics about jobs/money/moving/medicals etc, but feel proud they didn’t distract me from enjoying the here and now. [Doesn't that feel a bit American?] Now where is that red wine??

oh, and a waffle postscript. I highlighted the areas of learning really to show how a day we would have spent just like that is educational without me trying [well, apart from printing the exeter maths I guess]. I do want to regularly do maths and reading, writing too when she is happier to hold the pen, but the rest of it is just putting options on the table, and if she picks them, we do them, and if she doesn’t we don’t. This is not autonomous learning [having been reading Gills posts], but neither is it totally parent directed. I happy with it. She is after all, only 4, so my aim is at this stage to enable her to have tools to learn with, and to show her that there are lots of interesting things out there in the world, whilst keeping our feet rooted in our present. I’m glad no-one has asked me for an ed phil yet!

Giggle Girl

BB has got the most charming giggle. She likes jiggles and raspberries best, and leg waggling. It only tends to happen when SB not around, as then there is too much noise, chaos and possibly outright fear! I think BB has the best dimply smile ever anyway, but now she has this giggle instead of just wide open mouth, totally irresistible.

Sibling Issues: I think SB is jealous of the feeding of BB, and certainly if I pay BB attention at other times, it is not well received. Though i’m also in no doubt that SB really does love BB, and is really glad she is here. She often spontaneously hugs and kisses her, and tries to entertain her too. I’ve been trying to get SB really interested in something, and then do an extended nappy change so we can play. I leave the nappy off, so when SB comes up investigating [5 mins max before she is bouncing all over our bed] I can tell her its botty airtime. I’m not quite sure how best to do this.

I have always given SB a lot of attention, and don’t want her to feel that she’s not wanted as much now BB here. [I don't think she feels this at the mo] , but I certainly have had to do a lot of hard work on my relationship with SB since i went to work in Cambridgeshire before my mat leave, to get back to our previous loving position, and don’t want to jeopardise this. Particularly as I am returning to work in May. however, also love BB, and she is getting to that age where being cuddled and smiled at with a kick under her gym is not enough – although she is happy enough. SB will play on her own, but she prefers me to play with her, particularly if I am otherwise playing with BB. I do try and include her, but SB is so full on, that she can get too boisterous. When both of us here, its obviously easier. I’m hoping we can ease into a compromise pattern, but any clues??

Jax didn’t die………..

……from eating the cake. Big and Small sensibly declined! Me ‘n SB will eat anything if labelled cake!

Anyway, we nipped to see Jax – late as usual. How can it take so long to get out of the door?? Big and SB picked up where they had left off at Melrose and disappeared to play Mummies and Daddies. There was a brief contretemps over who was being Mummy after a while, and settled by them both being Mummies with babies. Small was a cutie, showing his new found jigsaw skills. BB mainly slept and fed [and was cuddled a lot by small]. Jax and I nattered, so a fun day out for all. Thankyou for having us.

Traffic back reasonably hideous, but worse in the other direction. SB fell asleep in car, so getting her to sleep now a bit problematical. She had a poor night sleep last night though, so really should drop off soon, as was exhausted.

Got back to find Chris excavating in the garage. It would make a good archaeological excercise for some willing home-edders. Actually could see some of the floor for the first time. Even better, he had some jacket potatoes on, so we got to have a scrummy eat.

It was quite a mountain of washing chris put away. However, I am sad that BB has grown so quickly that she just doesn’t seem a little baby. She is wearing clothes that SB wore when she was learning to walk, and it seems really odd. There’s a red cord dress which was one of my favs with SB, and I felt actually that I had lost something looking at it – maybe SB’s glorious early walking phase. hmm. Anyway, it does seem sad to be tidying away the 3-6 month clothes, as clothes over that age just don’t seem baby clothes to me. BB gorgeous though. Kicking in her play gym at the moment, with heavy herher sounds.

fun day

SB
nursery in the morning – which she had fun with, and showed off how good she is getting with numbers apparently. Also played a lot with her 2 best friends making sparkly pictures.

I picked her up after lunch and we went to gingerbread cottage – a really nice fun soft play area, v safe. it was my postnatal group!! She manically ran around wiht her friends while I got up to make sure she was still OK once in a while.

My Aunty Margaret visited when we got home, and did the Ikea version of beginners meccano to make a digger. SB started off helping, but then left Aunty to it!
MANY THANKS TO NIC as the crazy creatures got here today – that was quick!! So we made some crazy creatures together. I actually like playdough when we make crazy creatures with it!

We then showed Aunty Margaret how good at maths SB is, as she found the next 10 worksheet pages of 1a exeter maths, and proceded to romp through it. Our main problem is that it is obviously written for a child with reasonable manual dexterity and pen control – SB’s is all over the place. Normally i would have a manipulative around for her to show me she was getting it right. And I was going to go through the sheets and see how we could adjust them, rather than being caught on the hop. i prob help her a bit with the reading of instructions though, but he did seem to be understanding the more than less than sign and equals, it was just when they were more than or equal to that there was a glitch. I hadn’t planned to do all these in a row though, so we will backtrack and do some of the supporting activities. i do wish though that early maths books were written for those without much manual dexterity.

Still awaiting chris to sort out the cdroms – apparently joyce might have a patch he says, so fingers crossed!!
our chilli seeds have sprouted – so we decided that was exciting. We now need to put them ins ome compost – they actually have sprouted much more quickly than they do when sown – the power of chitting!

Ken Hom for tea – yummy, and the SB coloured in the armour of Henry 8th to stick on tomorrow. No we are not doing tudors, but got these sheets from visiting the royal armouries. there are quite a few work sheets on their website.

BB
giggling with jiggling skills training today [for my fun] and lots of grasping. She seems particularly fascinated with her left thumb! Still drinking well, and being a jolly baby. Was v well behaved when I was at Doctors, and had receptionist cuddling her for about 30 mins.

Me
mirena fitted this am – oh what joy. not particularly painful, and no probs now, so thats sorted! played with SB in the morning and had lots of cuddles, then picked SB up from nursery. I do like chatting with my postnatal group – so relaxing. ALso seeing the kids growing up together. 2 things in post, one from life insurance saying I need a medical as too fat – so excessively depressed. they are right of course, but I don’t like knowing about it, and a medical plus the fact I know they will hike premiums when we are already going to have such a tight budget is a real pain. The other was my purse – i had left it at my parents again – oops.

Chris
Still at dreadful south leeds loony tunes school. We are right to home ed!

edited for last word! SB obviously picked up the sign word for look, as kerfuffling not finding her pj’s, so stropped out of bedroom with hands on hips, shouting look, then doing the sign over and over, but with both hands at the same time – very emphatic! It is chris’s turn for the frustrating business of getting SB from naked into pj’s!

hmm, getting cd’s to work

Well, I got the DK world and science explorers from ebay, they work on windows 98 and we have XP. chris can normally fiddle with things to get them to work, but not this time. Grump.
Anyone use them on XP, and have a fiddle that gets them to work??
Was thinking of a few other cdroms including zoombinis, but they are also ’98, so a bit reluctant to buy something else that doesn’t work. [obviously ebay only at the mo!]

Work has emailed re contract, and I think finally we might get that sorted out. After all, I was only employed in October!!

On house move front, spoke to solicitor re the indemnity thing, as Chris wrote to them agreeing, but as it is *my* house, i have to confirm it!! He said sale might fall through without, so gritting teeth and paying up.

SB
A nursery day, which she seems to have had fun in. Certainly a really jolly gorgeous girl all evening when she got home, and remarkably easy to go to bed. bit miserable that we still can’t get the science explorer to work, as she wants to have a go.

BB
Well, a giggly girl now. Unfortunately, she enjoys ‘near throws’ up in the air – and at the weight she is, I can’t do many in a row! Certainly having great fun with rattles, baby gym and a pudding club cube that MIL got her from ELC. Squawking again, so I am making this quick!

Me
well, I think I have a lurgy, as soooooooo tired, hot and bothered etc. Think i need some sunshine!

Chris
also knackered – his head was lolling every 5 seconds or so watching the treasures programme this eve on TV!

as for car seats
? bebe confort hipsos
? recaro start – wow on price though
? britax kid
? recaro young style

Catch up blog – concerts etc

While Chris was entertaining our beans at my parents, I was putting violin practice to good use. 20 years ago [my god that long ago - i must have been about 4 LOL] with my mum and some of her friends and colleagues we set up a small chamber orchestra, which grew into a symphony orchestra [Wycombe Sinfonia]. This weekend was its birthday concert, so i went back to play again. Mum and sister also playing with dad proud in audience!! It was great fun, I wasn’t as crap as feared, and I will def join an amateur orchestra when we move.

I had no mothers day this year. reading sarahs blog though, i asked SB what she loved about me – my voice and my happy cheeks apparently. On pushing for something else, she decided I was a good tickler!

Lots of socialising and on-the-hoof ed. Some leap pad and jump ahead maths. Fri was a lot of painting, our friday treat of popcorn making and domestic skills [LOL]

Manic week ahead, and may try and sort out a viking type costume for wed home ed group.
