totality

remembered to look at the moon. it certainly does look weird when it is the wrong colour! When I got home from work, SB and I read some of our new books – marie curie and the search for radium and eric the red and leif the lucky. She had lots of questions after the marie curie one about science and elements and atoms, but decided we would look at another book ‘tomorrow’

she has done a fair bit of webland today while I was out, and chris has done a grand job on sorting out this years propagatory – time to sow some seeds! bit late with peppers already – oops.

SB and BB both did some violin practice, and SB some piano. otherwise mostly chilled and did pattern blocks altogether. tonight before going to bed, I read SB some britannia and she read me clumsy crocodile from usborne young readers. Her flow at reading is really coming along, and she reads things all the time now during the day – fantastic.

I must make sure worries of work don’t eclipse the joys of home.

  1. We forgot about the moon – and we were up and so could have seen it! As Chris would say, “Pah!”

Compartmentalising life is very, very difficult. Wishing you all the best.

  2. actually I meant to comment, when we were staying SB read her Chinese new Year booklet out to me and it did facinate me how she sounded out stuff she didn’t know then chunked it all back up into the right word. I love watching little brains at work!

  3. “SB and BB both did some violin practice” – you’re a lot braver than me! Violin is banned in this house! Recorder, guitar, piano, anything else but not violin!

  4. Yes, it’s odd isn’t it. Although we have followed a ‘sort of phonics approach’, we haven’t in the end made big thing about the blends etc. Mostly in the end a lot of it came from doing Explode the Code, odd bits of reading earlier. So she just tends to sound out the individual letter sounds irrelvant as to who they wil be in the word, and then just comes out with the word (pretty often correctly)
